Denim – Rough, Tough and Sexy!
There are some things that simply stand the test of time, no matter how you look at them. Denim is one of those things. Durable and fashionable, denim has been around for over 150 years. It has made a solid transition from simple dark blue menâs work pants, to holding a serious place in every modern womanâs fashion ensemble â especially plus size fashion. Slimming and comfortable, denim is the perfect addition to every plus size womanâs wardrobe.Â
Â
In 1853 during the California gold rush, denim became a staple in every gold prospectorâs life when a young German immigrant (Levi Strauss) moved to San Francisco with a supply of dry goods to open a branch of his brother's New York business. Shortly after his arrival, one of the miners asked Mr. Strauss what he was selling. When Levi told him that he had rough canvas for use in tents and wagon covers, the prospector said, "You should have brought pants!," adding that he couldnât find a pair of pants strong enough to last. Thus began the long history of blue jeans.
Â
It wonât be news to anyone that denim has definitely outgrown its true blue roots. Now made in every color of the rainbow, fashionable women everywhere can don denim literally from head to toe â from soft denim jeans to heavy denim jackets and vests. Plus size women have especially claimed their right to this very American fashion invention â finding boot cut jeans to be especially flattering to full figure curves (and no great wardrobe is complete without a white denim jacket for cool summer nights).Â
Â
Plus size fashion has embraced denim in every possible way, from snazzy short mini-skirts with black leggings underneath, to slimming coat dresses with brass snaps for out-to-dinner dress up. The possibilities are literally endless (and a load of fun too!). Check out our favorite plus size denim jeans here.
Â
Denim has come a long way since that group of California prospectors in the 1800âs, but one thingâs for sure â when it comes to this versatile, comfortable, attractive material â they definitely struck gold!
